Red Brick Dust

Made with bricks from old homes, legend has it that red brick dust has spiritual protection properties. This special spiritual blend consist of 50% red brick dust mixed with various herbs said to enhance spiritual protection. These magical herbs are homegrown in South Louisiana and used by Cajun Traiteurs and Creole Hoodoo practitioners. Each batch is individually prepared and infused with energy and blessed with a nonsectarian prayer to higher powers.

During a dark period in our history, people were taken from their ancestral homes in Africa and brought to the Americas to be enslaved. With these people came their spiritual and magical practices. Red ochre powder had been used as far back as anyone could remember for its protective properties. The ancient Egyptians painted their statues and wall decorations using the red powder to invoke protection. Arriving in South Louisiana, the enslaved people substituted the powder made from old red bricks in their rituals. As people observed the power of these rituals and their ability to provide protection, it spread to mainstream French culture that was dominant in the area. From New Orleans to the Acadiana prairies and the swamps of Jean Lafitte to the Red River rapids, the traditional use of red brick dust thrives among the Cajun and Creole people.
