The Louisiana Cajun & Creole Tarot
As a mystic from South Louisiana, deeply connected to the history, culture, and spirituality of my people, I am thrilled to present this Cajun-inspired tarot deck. Rooted in the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot system, this deck closely follows the traditional meanings of each card, offering insight and guidance that resonates with those familiar with classic tarot. However, each card has been reimagined and renamed to reflect the spirit of Cajun life, capturing the essence of our culture.
In this deck, Wands have become Fiddles, celebrating the vibrant musical traditions of Louisiana. Cups are transformed into Accordions, instruments that carry the soul of Cajun and Zydeco music. Swords are represented by Triangles, the rhythmic heart of many Cajun songs, while Pentacles become Washboards, the backbone of many lively gatherings and music sessions.
The court cards also have new faces, each embodying a unique aspect of Cajun family life. Jolie, inspired by the song Jolie Blanc, replaces the Page. She’s a pretty young girl, curious and a bit naive, looking at the world with fresh eyes. The Knight becomes T-Boy, a brave, adventurous young man with a strong work ethic and a wild spirit. You’ll find T-Boy out catching gators with his bare hands, tinkering with his outboard motor, or dreaming of working in the oilfields to support his family one day. Tante, replacing the Queen, is the family’s beloved matriarch, the old aunt who takes care of everyone and holds the family together. And Nonc, representing the King, is the family patriarch who ensures things are orderly and well-maintained in his own way.
This deck is a tribute to our roots, blending Cajun heritage with the mystic tradition of tarot, inviting you to explore the wisdom of our culture with every reading.
